MEET MY CHARACTER BLOG TOUR

Welcome to my Meet My Character Blog Tour! My good friend and critique partner, Caroline Clemmons, invited me to participate in this fun project. I want you to get to know my character, Matelyn O'Donnell, but first I'll introduce you to Caroline.

Caroline Clemmons is an Amazon best selling author of historical and contemporary western romances whose books have garnered numerous awards. Her latest release is, GABE KINCAID, book four of her popular Kincaid series. A frequent speaker at conferences, she has taught workshops on characterization, point of view and layering a novel.

Caroline is a member of Romance Writers of America, Yellow Rose Romance Writers, From The Heart Romance Writers, and Hearts Through History Romance Writers. Her latest publications include the acclaimed historical Men of Stone Mountain series: BRAZOS BRIDE, HIGH STAKES BRIDE, and BLUEBONNET BRIDE and the audiobooks of BRAZOS BRIDE and HIGH STAKES BRIDE.

Caroline and her husband live in the heart of Texas cowboy country with their menagerie of rescued pets. Prior to writing full time, her jobs included stay-at-home mom (her favorite), secretary, Newspaper reporter and featured columnist, assistant to the managing editor of a psychology journal, bookkeeper for the local tax assessor and -- for a short time -- an antique dealer. When she's not indulging her passion for writing, Caroline enjoys reading, travel, antiquing, genealogy, painting, getting together with friends, and enhoying watching the birds, butterflies and squirrels wandering through her back yard.

Meet My Character

Now, I'll introduce you to the heroine of Matelyn And The Texas Ranger, the second novella in the Brides of Texas series.

1) What is the name of your character? Is he/she fictional or a historic person?

My character is Matelyn Gloria O'Donnell. She is completely fictional, except she is exhibiting traits of the spunky woman she is named for - my mother.

2) When and where is the story set?

The story starts in Dallas County, Texas, moves briefly to New Orleans, Louisiana, then wends its way back to Dallas from Indianola on the Texas coast. It's set in the year 1875.

Ship Matelyn may have traveled on to Texas.

3) What should we know about him/her?

Mattie is a single woman who learned to take care of herself early in life and is fiercely

independent. This trait served her well on the trip from Ireland with her brother, Jamey, and cousin, Katie. She fought for what they needed and for their safety. Being self-sufficient has proven beneficial  in her job as a lady's companion and will be essential for her survival when she reaches Texas. Her strength and independence have prevented her falling in love thus far, but she's certain there's a man willing to love her for who she is.

4) What is the main conflict? What messes up his/her life?

The trip to Texas from New Orleans offers Mattie an incredible opportunity to begin her life anew. When plans go awry and she's forced to rely on the Texas Ranger for her very survival, Mattie finds it hard to comply with his overbearing attitude. After days on the trail and being chased by a band of outlaws trying to kill her, she begins to rethink her thoughts of complete independence. She develops unexpected feelings for this tortured man and begins the process of finding a chink in his armor.

Dress like Matelyn may have worn.

5) What is the personal goal of the character?

Mattie wants to marry a good man, have children and a home of her own. Barring that, she at least wants to be self-sufficient, living life on her own terms.

6) Is there a working title? And can we read more about it?

Yes, the title is MATELYN AND THE TEXAS RANGER. I will be sharing excerpts on my Facebook author page and will post the cover and blurb right here on my blog soon.

7) When can we expect the book to be published?

I've had to push the date back a couple of weeks to the second week of September 2014.

Next week (August 25) Check out this awesome writer's characters.

Brazos Bride by Caroline Clemmons - Book Review

One of the things I wanted to do on this site was to promote authors work. I have strayed from this over the summer and I'm going to fix that now. The first book is a western historical.

Brazos Bride by Caroline Clemmons is the first installment in her Men of Stone Mountain series and it's a keeper.

Hope Montoya has figured out she is being poisoned. She fears her mothers death was due to the same method and her father was murdered. With what little strength she has left, Hope must figure out how to save her ranch and her inheritance. Who can she trust to help her? She decides to ask Micah Stone to marry her and protect her while they search for the person or persons who want her dead.

Micah Stone has loved Hope since he first saw her. When her father is killed, Micah is tried and aquitted for his murder. Against his better judgement, he agrees to her proposal of a marriage in name only. Can Micah find who is poisoning Hope in time to save her and then walk away?

Can Hope and Micah deny their feelings for each other?

Ms. Clemmons characters come alive on the page and her descriptions paint a vivd picture of the Texas countyside. I hope you will try Brazos Bride, as well as the other books she has on Amazon.

Brazos Bride is mildly sensual and contains some profanity so if this bothers you, you might not like the story.

Below is a link to Amazon for, Brazos Bride.

I do hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!
